Country artist Shane Owens
has released the single, ³19,² inspired by ex-NFL player and fallen Army
Ranger Pat Tillman who was killed in Afghanistan last April. The song is
gaining interest and support not only within the music industry, but also
among organizations within the NFL.
The song will be performed by
Owens at the upcoming NFL Wives Association event, called ³Race for Pat.²
Sally Gardocki, head of the organization refers to the song as a tribute
that¹s heartwarming as well as patriotic. ³I cried when I played this
song. I can't tell you how well Jeffrey Steele (songwriter) captured
Pat's spirit and heart, or how well Shane sang it. It gave me chills. I
communicate each day with men in Afghanistan and Iraq through ³Race for
Pat,² and so many of them are like the young boys that you know, whether
it be the ones working in grocery stores or serving as high school
football coaches. This song is awesome, and Pat would have been proud to
be the inspiration behind the words.²
The ³Race for Pat² project
will involve all NFL teams--including the Tennessee Titans. Events are set
to take place at all stadiums within the organization. Proceeds will
benefit the Pat Tillman Foundation. The Tillman family created the
Foundation following Pat¹s death. Its mission is to carry his legacy
forward by inspiring and supporting people to make positive change within
themselves and their community. Organizers of ³Race for Pat² hope the
song, ³19,² will help raise awareness of and increase support for the
Tillman Foundation.
Owens, a native of Samson,
Alabama, says the song pays tribute Tillman¹s heroism as well as all U.S.
military members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the war on
terrorism. The Curb Records artist says ³19² is symbolic of the age and
innocence of the average American male who commits to protecting the
nation¹s freedom. And that the song is something he views as personal.
³I¹ve got several friends in the service and, overall, ³19² hits very
close to home for me. The song is about sacrifice and the Twin Towers
attack. A lot of people say that it strikes them right in the heart.²
Owens is currently available
to do interviews and guest segments about, ³19.² For more information,
