THE PRIDE OF COUNTRY MUSIC READY TO CAPTIVATE OPRY FANS
(Nashville,
Tenn.) - Legendary country singer Charley Pride is being celebrated by
fans worldwide with sold out performances in the United States, Ireland,
England, Scotland, and Norway. In spite of previous health conditions,
this has been one of the most spectacular years of his stellar career.
Pride will
return to Music City on October 22 and 23 for “Opry Homecoming Month.” The
performances will mark 37 years since he first played at the Opry. In
those years, he's never done a show at the Opry without receiving a
standing ovation.
Music critics
are calling Pride’s 11 recent performances in Canada “phenomenal.” His
show was the top grosser in the last month. Brian Edwards, Canadian
promoter, said of his shows, “I lost count of the standing ovations each
night. It was pure energy from the start of the show until the end.”
Edwards also stated, “Charley Pride is the best country music entertainer
in the business today, a guaranteed sell out and a big hit with the
audience every time.”
On his recent
show in Oregon at the Chinook Winds Casino, Dale Robertson, casino talent
booker, said, “Every seat was sold out both nights. The tickets were sold
quickly and with little advertising. Charley was full of energy and the
crowd loved him.”
Pride’s current
album, Comfort of Her Wings (Music City Records), reunites
him with friend/producer legendary “Cowboy” Jack Clement, and shows
promise of falling into the same category as the first 51 successful
albums. Comfort of Her Wings, marks Pride’s second release
on the Music City Records label, where he rekindles his relationship with
his old RCA pal Bob Heatherly, President and Founder of Music City
Records. Heatherly began working for RCA’s country division in 1982 where
he and Pride became fast friends ‘til this day.
Heatherly said, “When I was starting my own label, I knew I wanted Charley
Pride, because of his legendary status in his own right and an
international ambassador. While singers such as Merle Haggard and George
Jones were out building a ‘bad boy’ image, Pride chose a different path
and pursued his career with a more low-key finesse.”
When asked why he chose to produce Pride’s albums, “Cowboy” Jack Clement
said, “I’ll never forget the first time I heard Charley Pride’s voice in
the recording studio--Studio RCA-B to be exact. It was a producer’s dream.
It was a powerful, wonderful musical instrument driven by a kind, gentle,
and loving soul.”
As an international touring artist, Pride has continued to break new
ground throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as in Europe, Australia,
New Zealand, Japan and even Fiji. He recently returned from a successful
European tour. And does 35 to 40 shows a year in the U.S.
With 36 No. 1
hits, 30 gold, and 5 platinum albums, Charley Pride is burning up the
country music scene both here in the states and internationally. Pride, a
Country Music Hall of Famer, remains in the top 15 of country music
all-time record sales. He is still only second to Elvis Presley in overall
sales for RCA Records.
The award winning artist is the consummate survivor, and is celebrated for
breaking the country music racial barrier. He remains at the top of his
game. He works when he wants, plays golf (his 2nd passion) and is
recording the music he loves.
