Liz Longley, the singer-songwriter whose music has been featured in Lifetime’s “Army Wives,” ABC’s “Switched at Birth” and “Beauty and the Beast” and MTV’s “Scream”, exclusively premieres her latest single and music video I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) on Billboard today. “Everyone has danced to this song at a wedding at some point in their lives, but in re-imagining this song, I felt compelled to highlight the beauty of the angst in the lyrics,” says Liz.
“A new take on Four Tops’ I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch), which she transforms from quintessential party anthem for the ages (and for all ages) to an introspective admission perhaps more befitting its lyrics. While Longley’s interpretation starts more slowed down, but still fairly faithful to, the original, her version, produced by Kai Welch, culminates in an unrestrained coda.”

With the audio produced by Kai Welch (Abigail Washburn, Bobby Bare, Jr., and Molly Tuttle), Liz delivers a lustful version teeming with unrelenting desire sure to be the most vulnerable recording of this 1965 Four Tops hit. Under the direction of Hope Tree Entertainment’s Patryk Larney, the live, performance-style video perfectly shines a spotlight on Liz and the intimacy of this single.
Liz has been connecting with fans around the globe promoting her Sugar Hill Records releases sharing the stage with acts like Mindy Smith, Amos Lee, Brandi Carlile, The Indigo Girls and Shawn Colvin. Her self-titled debut album received critical acclaim, being described as “a thing of beauty” (Pop Dose) and “packed with instantly memorable pop rock songs…” (Popmatters). Her follow up album Weightless, released in 2016, was praised as “stunning” (HuffPost) and “something more; a cleverness, a wit and a mix of musical styles” (Dallas Morning News). Garnering praise from both celebrities and journalists, this Pennsylvania native now residing in Music City has won the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship Competition, Rocky Mountain Folk Festival Songwriting Competition and International Acoustic Music Awards.
