Come Celebrate the Second Annual “History and Whiskey” at Historic Traveller’s Rest
Judge John Overton’s 1799 residence will play host to “History and Whiskey,” Friday, November 16 from 6 pm-9 pm. The event is billed as a “field trip for adults.” Activities will feature a guided house tour, strolling costumed musicians and period artisans including: a hat maker, lace maker, shoe maker and hearth cooking. Also included will be interactive games, storytelling, and quill pen demonstrations. The historic home, school house and event space will all be open to the public.
Tickets are $50/person and include two whiskey or wine tickets and delectable, hearty fare from Two Fat Men Catering. Tennessee whiskey is the theme and menu items include: bourbon glazed meat balls and ham on a homemade sweet potato biscuit, grilled chicken on a stick with bourbon glaze, collard green artichoke dip and salsa and homemade tortilla chips and gourmet mac and cheese. In addition, there will be a generous Tennessee charcuterie platter and dessert medley to include sweet potato bourbon pie, bourbon infused brownies and pecan pralines. Fruit tea, unsweetened iced tea and filtered water will also be available.
Executive Director Mary T. Kerr enthuses, “For the last 16 years, our most popular signature event has been period trades day geared toward school grade children. We have literally hosted thousands of children who get excited about our Tennessee history by being immersed in it. We thought adults we love it too especially with great whiskey and food thrown in!”
All proceeds for the event go toward fundraising for historic Travellers Rest.
