This past holiday season, Barr and Baber combined their gifts during the global quarantine to create a music video for their recently released duet, Christmas in Memphis.
Using quarantine time to recalibrate her efforts, Lockwood penned material for her next project and helped build the “Stories & Songs” drive-in concert series that was anchored at Nashville Craft Distillery throughout the summer of 2020. In addition, she expanded her outreach to her fans by publishing mental health tips to help her audiences cope through the challenges of life in a pandemic. This wasn’t Lockwood’s first extension into mental health awareness as she previously worked for a decade, after losing a friend to suicide when she was in high school, with a group that lobbied to add suicide prevention nets to the Golden Gate Bridge. Their efforts paid off and the nets are projected to be installed in 2021.
About Lockwood Barr
From the moment she steps into the spotlight and begins picking her banjo – her dad’s 1972 Gibson Masterstone to be exact – it is undeniable that being on stage is where Lockwood Barr feels most at home. Selected as an emerging artist to watch by the Country Music Association in both 2016 and 2017, this Tiburon, Cali. native songwriter and Vanderbilt graduate was awarded an Independent Country Music Association award as banjo player and vocalist for the Nashvegas Rambler. Barr released her debut project, Signs Along the Road in 2016 which was produced by Matt Odmark of the Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay. “She has the goods…” writes Music Row Magazine. “Barr exudes natural talent and her career in the music business seems promising.”
Lockwood, a longtime advocate for suicide prevention, appeared on CBS Sunday Morning to share the personal story of the suicide of a close childhood friend. Using the tragedy to fuel activism, she and numerous others petitioned for a preventative suicide barrier along the Golden Gate Bridge after her friend’s death. Fortunately, their hard work paid off. Plans for a $200 million suicide barrier were approved and are due for completion in 2021.
Lockwood has crafted a unique sound that is here to stay: unapologetically bold yet playfully relatable. In the Nashville area, fans can hear Lockwood’s voice as the artist behind the theme song for Rhythm Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. She most recently released the single Helluva Habit which was exclusively premiered via American Songwriter Magazine and even secured her a spot on the Academy of Country Music’s New Music Friday playlist when it launched. When it comes to emerging women in today’s country music scene, it is clear that Lockwood – armed with killer musicianship and a personality that shines as bright as her electrifying blue eyes – is truly raising the Barr.
